Whether it be homemade passion projects with a means of self-expression, or activism for the purpose of change, zines have played a huge role within the way the queer community has distributed information and messages. With Flamer, Joshua wanted to bring these elements together and create a series of zines inspired by the colours of the progress flag, that showcase queer talent from history as a way of increasing visibility and representation to improve inclusivity of the LGBTQIA+ community. He worked to create and outlet that allows young queer people to learn about the past and feel as though they are being seen when it comes to their involvement within design. Heavily inspired by queer zine culture from the 80s and 90s, he looked towards the modernising of their duo-tone aesthetic whilst sticking to the quick and cheap way of getting word out and dispersing history.
